Significant Murder Case Update

Marie Spenwyn represented a defendant charged with the murder of his mother. Following psychiatric assessment, a plea to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility was accepted. At the sentencing hearing at the Central Criminal Court on the 28th March 2024 for an “act of mercy” by a sole carer under immense pressure a suspended sentence was imposed.  

 

In this difficult and significant case Marie was led by Katy Thorne KC of Doughty Street Chambers, instructed by Caroline Liggins and Emily McNally of Hodge, Jones and Allen.
